Australian businesswoman Melissa Caddick, accused of fraud, and investment embezzlement, has been missing for more than three months, since last November she left her home in Dover Heights located east of Sydney (Australia).

However, a few weeks ago a group of surfers found a shoe lying on the beach in New South Wales, which it was still on a severed woman’s foot which turned out to belong to Caddick.

The find increased theories that the businesswoman had been murdered, especially since other limbs have been found in the vicinity of the first find, a place located about 400 kilometers from Caddick’s home. However, forensic evidence showed that they were not from the accused woman.

According to the statements of the New South Wales Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller, it has not yet been ruled out that the woman is still alive.

“There is always the possibility that she has cut her foot and is still alive, although it is quite fanciful”, Fuller in a recent radio interview.

Although the theory seems far-fetched, the police do not rule out that it is possible as the exhaustive searches have not resulted in the discovery of more remains of Caddick.

Caddick’s Asics shoe and bad foot landed on a remote beach on the south coast of New South Wales last month, more than three months after she disappeared from her home in the eastern suburbs.

The shoe found on an Australian beach belonged to Melissa Caddick but several forensic experts say it was in very good condition to have lasted three months at sea.

According to Fuller the other remains found in the Mollymook area belonged to a missing Sydney man who was last seen in Kiama, while other grim discoveries were related to animals or probably belonged to a missing spearfisher.

While Fuller said he was “satisfied” with the possibility that Caddick may have died, the case remains open.

“We have 68 victims of fraud and we feel sorry for them”, said the police commissioner.

“We are still trying to recover funds and that investigation continues. But we have not closed this case ”, he added.

The commissioner claimed that detectives were still searching for Ms. Caddick’s remains and also the missing millions.

Several prominent criminologists have raised the idea that the 49-year-old mother was murdered, and police have confirmed that they cannot rule out foul play. Although Fuller said this was a “Minimal possibility”.

Caddick was last seen on the night of November 11, hours after federal police and the corporate watchdog raided her home.

Her 15-year-old son told officers he heard the front door lock at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 12 after his mother allegedly left for a morning run but she did not take any belongings, including her phone.

Her $7 million home in Dover Heights is just a short walk up the cliff.

When asked if he jumped, Fuller said that “That’s really difficult” given that many people kill themselves in that area.

“(But not often) body parts are washed so south of Sydney and in such good condition since she disappeared on or about November 11th.” He said.

“Not to say it can’t happen. The coroner will make more determinations”, he highlighted

Fuller added that in his experience he had never seen remains “wash in this way.”

Many experts argue that the shoe was in very good condition to have been in the water for three months, a theory favored by leading criminal psychology expert Tim Watson-Munro, cited by Australian media News.com.au.

“The decomposition of the shoe suggests that it has not been in the water for three months. While it is not my area of expertise, if that is the case, a possible scenario is that she was recently killed or murdered and kept on the ice for a while”, he said.

“An amputated foot is a great launch. They (the police and the public) see this and let it go. Of all the beaches and feet in the world, to find hers, what is the probability of that?” affirmed the expert.

Another expert in forensic medicine who supports the theory is Paola Magni, saying that on the foot there is no presence of barnacles or marine growth on the footwear.

“If the shoe had been floating that long, barnacles would be expected. But if it was kept protected, perhaps in a plastic bag or submerged in a car, there is less chance of it appearing ”, commented the expert in local media.

Caddick ripped off $25 million to family and friends through her dubious financial business Maliver, that used a Ponzi-like scheme.

With the money she would have bought luxurious items and personal expenses.
