Rio de Janeiro, March 5. At least two supporters were injured on Sunday, one of them seriously, during a fight between supporters of Rio de Janeiro clubs Flamengo and Vasco da Gama near the Maracana stadium.

The Rio de Janeiro City Classic was won by Vasco da Gama 0-1.

Videos posted on social media show hundreds of rowdy team supporters shouting harangues outside the stadium, as the sounds of gunfire are heard and the smoke of gas dispersed by shock police sees them relegated .

In one of them you can see one of the fans, lying on the ground completely naked and unconscious, while the Flamengo fans chant “one more, one more”.

The most violent events took place in Sao Cristôbal, a neighboring district of Maracana where supporters also attacked the police and tried to destroy one of their vehicles.

The area’s metro transit service had to cease operations due to the events and more uniformed personnel had to be called in to help contain the fighting.

The fire department confirmed the two injured were taken to a nearby hospital and their whereabouts are unknown.

According to the Specialized Stadium Police Battalion (BEPE), in Madureira, another neighborhood near the iconic stadium, mittens, pieces of sticks and even a homemade bomb were confiscated.

The riots were not only observed in the vicinity of the Maracana but in other places in the city.

In the ‘Complexo do Alemão’, a depressed conglomeration of favelas north of Rio where poverty and violence abound, fans were also recorded with their faces covered in t-shirts, sticks in their hands and throwing gunpowder. EFE
