Despite continued requests from President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) At Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), the president finally declared that will not promote any reform so that he could “purify her from corruption”.

From his traditional morning lecturethe head of the Mexican executive acknowledged that only ministers of the Court are responsible for promoting possible reform. This, he asserted, due to autonomy of justice currently chaired by the Minister President, Norma Lucía Piña.

“No, not in our government (judicial reform will be promoted), because we maintain that this reform must be promoted by the same members of the judiciary”

It should be remembered that the Mexican President has repeatedly occupied the lectern of the National Palace to criticize the third power of the Union for having allegedly blame “corrupt and complicit judges”. especially those who release suspected criminals.

It was November 24, 2022, when Andrés Manuel proposed to promote a reform of the Judiciary at the initiative of ministers to regulate the action of judges and magistrates. Since then, AMLO has recognized that neither the executive nor the legislature can intervene in this initiative: “It must come from within”, he declared on this occasion. Morning.

In addition to this argument, López Obrador pointed out that another of the reasons why he will refuse to present said reform is to avoid being singled out for an alleged interest in disappearing at the SCJN; as was the case with Electoral Reform and the National Electoral Institute (INE), he said.

“We do not want to give reasons to the opponents, conservatives, corrupt to say that we want to eliminate the Judiciary. (…) We are not going to fall for that”.
