The production is based on the novel of the same name, winner of the Strega Prize and international bestseller of Antonio Scurati which tells the birth of fascism in Italy and the rise of Mussolini with an innovative approach. The screenplay is written by Stefano Bises (Gomorrah, The new dad) in collaboration with David Serino (1992).
