Valeria Gamper placed sixth in the competition for the best sommelier in the world held in Paris. A few hours after his outstanding performance, he spoke to GlobeLiveMedia, with his compatriot, Andrea Donadio, who also participated in the competition.
He Siri Food & Wine Grand Prize 2022-23 celebrated the most important gastronomy and oenology of the neighboring country. The competition called for culinary projects and wines from Maldonado, Rocha and Colonia, emphasizing the importance of providing year-round servicein order to support and highlight those who bet on the local market during and outside the summer season and to integrate sustainable practices in their processes.
This new edition presents six ambassadorsall related to living well, which represent the 54 projects the food and wine that make up different routes who organizes the competition. The objective: to share the enormous potential of identity products of the region and spread its values.

The award focuses on projects that represent their communities and departments and at the same time honor the raw materials with which they work. To be selected, they must meet the following criteria:
* Provide service throughout the year.
* Integrate sustainable practices into their processes.
*Foster the relationship with the community and the link with the producers of the region (KM 0).
*Positively influence the positioning and communication of the product and the place it represents in tourism.
*Be involved in the value chain of any of the products of the six Sirí Grand Prix routes.
The objective is not that the participants of each course compete against each other but that to complement each other and add value to each other. There was a winner (the cheese route) and lots of fascinating situations, full of celebration. Winners received iconic Syrian crab claw figurines designed by the artist Marcelo Toledo.
Each route had its ambassador. They are: Sofia Pashano, road standard bearer caramel sauce, Miracle Brasco same with the wines, Gaston Figun with him Lamb, Rodrigo Toso and the olive oil, Carla Tchintien with cheese and Marcel Baruchdefending the artisanal fishing.
The idea of these prizes is to immerse food lovers in a kind of game where the different paths compete. During this time you can enjoy the most amazing chronicles of Charrúa. Photos, videos and also stories. Life itself, passion and tradition with everything that eating well means and a philosophy of living well.
These trips, in addition to contributing to the cultural dissemination and propose new approaches to typical products by residents and tourists of the region, aim to bring a real valorization of the production chain of each of the industries involved in the roads, from the moment the product leaves the land, sea or river until it reaches the plates of a restaurant or the cupboards of a home, in addition to helping to strengthen Uruguay as a destination for gastronomic tourism for the region and the world.
The idea of the event (in addition to the cocktail in stand version with delicacies for all tastes) was to honor the producers, who during the year were part of this project, which covers six courses.
