Five people were killed and four others were injured early this Sunday morning after armed men shot at a group of locals who were conversing in a neighborhood of La Unión, in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca (southwest).

“Five people were murdered, and four people were injured, we are confirming if there are minors, the Police and the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI, of the Prosecutor’s Office) are at the scene of the events,” the secretary of the Government of the municipality, Jhoana Ayala.

The official explained that among the four injured, who were transferred to care centers, there is one person in serious condition and there is fear for his life.

The attack occurred in the Ciudadela Grajales neighborhood where armed men arrived and shot at a group of neighbors who were chatting in front of their homes, in events that are being investigated by the authorities.

The Institute for the Development of Studies for Peace (Indepaz), which monitors homicides in its observatory, reported on social networks on July 12 of this year in Colombia that 53 massacres have been perpetrated, leaving 185 dead.

On the 25th, the authorities reported that three people, including a demobilized FARC member, were shot to death in a commercial establishment in the municipality of Puerto Rico, in southern Colombia, less than 24 hours after a renowned leader and environmentalist was assassinated in the municipality of La Dorada, in Caldas (downtown).
