A 58-year-old man died while running a marathon in Córdoba

A 58-year-old man died today while participating in the “Recorré Córdoba ” marathon in the capital of that province, official sources reported.

The man had “a sudden loss of consciousness, being observed by police and Civil Defense personnel,” said the health ministry of that municipality in a statement.

The participant was “immediately assisted by medical personnel from 107, who were 200 meters from the scene, observing that the person no longer had vital signs.”

The medical team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and placed him on an automatic defibrillator, work that, according to official sources, was “reinforced by the highly complex ambulance that performs advanced CPR, intubation, cannulation and pertinent medication, without being able to reverse picture”.

The death was confirmed in journalistic statements by Roxana Pedernera, a doctor from the 107 emergency service, who treated the marathoner and indicated that he suffered “a sudden death witnessed.”

As he stated to the TN signal, “200 meters away we had one of the motorcycles that gave the first response with an automatic defibrillator. Then we arrived with highly complex mobiles and continued with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. After 45 minutes, the death”.

Almost 14,000 people participated in the “CBA 42 K Marathon, Recorré Córdoba”.

“This is the largest marathon in the history of Córdoba, and one of the largest in Argentina. We celebrate that our city has finally a marathon at the height of the great capitals of the world,” said the secretary in the previous days of Government, Miguel Siciliano.

The winners were received at the finish line by the mayor of the city of Córdoba, Martín Llaryora.
