WhatsApp has announced new features in the Channels tool, including voice messages, polls, status sharing and more admins; check out the details
WhatsApp announced on Wednesday (17) several new features for the Channels tool, launched in September 2023. Users of the tool will be able to make polls, send voice messages, share group updates in their status and even include more administrators to help with posts. Channels work like broadcast lists, where the owner interacts with followers through messages that can only be answered with emojis. See below for more details on the new features in the messenger.
According to Meta, the decision to allow administrators to share voice messages in Channels is because the feature is one of the most popular within the app. In polls, it will be possible to ask members what content they want to be shared in the space or just to ask their opinion on a particular topic. To use the new function of sharing a channel update in the status, simply hold down an interesting message from the group, select “forward” and then “my status”.
From Wednesday, Channels will also be able to have up to 16 administrators. The Channel owner can invite any of their contacts or followers to become administrators. Once the invitation is accepted, the new administrator will be able to manage the channel’s information and create, edit and delete any updates. It’s important to note that only the owners of a Channel can delete it.
Tools that work like the WhatsApp Channel have also been implemented in apps such as Instagram and Telegram. In the messenger, the big difference is privacy. Administrators can’t know who the users who follow the channel are and no other participant can see the reaction or vote shared in the space. With no limits on the number of followers, Channels can be found in the “Updates” tab, which is separated from other tabs such as “Calls” and “Conversations” in the platform’s top menu.
