Spotify HiFi will not see the light of day in 2021. Blame it on Apple and its lossless Apple Music offer?
At the beginning of the year, Spotify announced publication of its intention to offer a brand new audio streaming offer called Spotify HiFi.
As the name indicates very clearly, this would be for the user to enjoy superior audio quality, which is particularly interesting for audiophiles who have the necessary equipment to fully enjoy it. The offer is still pending.
Spotify HiFi will not see the light of day in 2021
Unfortunately, it seems that this offer does not see the light of day this year. The company had already made it clear that the launch of this new subscription would take place before the end of the year, but we’re only a week into the New Year, so there is now very little chances that Spotify can keep its provisional schedule.
Blame it on Apple and its lossless Apple Music offer?
It’s hard to know what takes so long to launch this service. That being said, it could be that this delay is due to the competition, and in particular to Apple, which announced a few months ago that its own Apple Music service would soon offer a lossless quality offer at no additional cost to its subscribers.
9to5Mac suggests that this gives Apple Music an advantage over Spotify, and it may have forced the latter to rethink its strategy.
After all, why would people go and pay for a more expensive subscription when the competition is offering more or less the same for free? Either way, if you are a Spotify subscriber and are looking forward to this new offer, you will still have to wait before you can take advantage of it.
Hopefully the launch is not too late. And who knows, maybe you will even have a pleasant surprise regarding the price… To be continued!
