Meta, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads and the Meta Quest, has announced its quarterly figures for Q3 /2023. Revenue was $34.15 billion, up 23% year-over-year, and operating income was $13.75 billion, up as much as 143% year-over-year. Net income was $11.58 billion, an increase of 164% year-on-year.

Meta Quest and related in this area is probably not doing so well at the moment. Reality Labs will incur even higher losses in 2023 than in the previous year. Revenue fell to $210 million (-26% year-over-year), and the loss was $3.74 billion.

However, not only the bare numbers in terms of monetary are always interesting, you can also keep an eye on user numbers. In the meantime, it is quite difficult to get an exact overview, since Meta offers numerous services. Across all services it looked like this:

  • Daily Active Persons (DAP): DAP averaged 3.14 billion for September 2023, an increase of 7% year-over-year.
  • Monthly Active People (MAP): MAP was 3.96 billion as of September 30, 2023, an increase of 7% year-over-year.
  • Daily Active Facebook Users (DAUs): DAUs averaged 2.09 billion for September 2023, an increase of 5% year-over-year.
  • Monthly Active Facebook Users (MAUs): MAUs were 3.05 billion as of September 30, 2023, a 3% increase year-over-year.

Incidentally, Threads, Meta’s “X competitor” not usable in Europe, is said to have nearly 100 million monthly users, according to Mark Zuckerberg. In a Threads post on Wednesday, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said, “I hope to roll out support for Europe, early Fediverse advances, better Instagram integrations and trends in the coming months.”
