TikTok is lifting the 60 second limit for all creators, anyone will be able to create videos of up to three minutes

The principle of TikTok is to allow anyone to create and share short format videos. Short, for TikTok, meaning limited to 60 seconds. Which is a good thing, or not, depending on the opinion. Still, some creators could for a few months create longer content. A feature that is coming for everyone.

TikTok lifts 60 second limit for all creators

TikTok videos are limited to 60 seconds, but last year TikTok allowed some creators to create content longer than that. Until then, this was a feature exclusive to some lucky handpicked. Today, good news, the platform announces that this possibility will be offered to all creators.

Anyone will be able to create videos of up to three minutes

According to the official TikTok press release: “In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out the option to create longer videos to all TikTok users, giving our entire community the ability to shoot, post and edit videos during up to three minutes directly in TikTok. Once the deployment is complete, you will receive a notification informing you that the long videos are now available.”

What’s interesting here is that TikTok seems to be following the same progression as Instagram, a few years behind. When the platform offered its users to post videos, the duration was limited. Then came IGTV, which made it possible to share longer videos to better compete with platforms like YouTube.

One of the main interests of TikTok was precisely that the content was kept short, and therefore easy to digest. It now seems that the company wants to attract more creators, or at least creators of a new genre, such as those who appreciate being able to post longer content. Either way, users will soon be able to create videos of up to three minutes.
