Honor will soon formalize its first smartphone with a foldable screen, a device called Honor Magic V which is still very mysterious.

Honor has just hinted at the launch of its first smartphone with a folding screen, the Magic V, on Twitter and Weibo. The company, which was originally a subsidiary of Huawei, describes it as “Honor’s first foldable flagship” and specifies that it will be “soon” on the market, without providing a precise date.

Honor will soon formalize its first smartphone with a foldable screen

Rumors have been circulating for some time about a potential foldable smartphone in the works at Honor, especially after the company filed the terms “Magic Fold” and “Magic Wing” with the Chinese Trademark Authority.

Company CEO George Zhao told CNET in 2019 that he was very interested in designing a smartphone with a foldable display. Its former parent company, Huawei, recently released its third generation of foldable smartphone, the Mate X2.

There are, however, no further details. A rumor from The Elec claimed that Honor’s future foldable screen smartphone would use ultra-thin glass with an 8.03-inch display unfolded and a 6.45-inch outer display.

If this information is true, it means that this device would be quite similar, in size, to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 and not to the Galaxy Flip 3. And since it is a flagship, it is to be expected high-end components.

Huawei sold Honor in November 2020 to “ensure its survival”. Honor has therefore been an independent company for a little over a year now. And unlike Huawei devices, Google apps and services are available on Honor smartphones.

With Samsung, Huawei and now Honor, Xiaomi, Oppo and Motorola have all recently released smartphones with foldable screens. Google is reportedly working on a similar device in its Pixel lineup, and has even announced a version of Android that’s thought and designed for tablets and foldable devices.
