Clubhouse, a voice SNS that is rapidly gaining momentum in Japan, is reported to be working on the development of its own voice chat function, which Facebook will compete with.

Facebook’s Zuckerberg also seems to have been chatting about AR and VR at Clubhouse on the 7th (local time), but he may not be satisfied with the platform created by people.

According to The New York Times, Facebook is working on a project codenamed Fireside, and the developers in charge have been instructed to build a Clubhouse-like service.

However, the codename of the project is subject to change as it is still in the early stages of development.

It’s not the first time Facebook has incorporated ideas from other companies’ services into its products, Snapchat has created an Instagram story, TikTok has created an Instagram reel, and Zoom has created a Messenger room.

For Facebook, whose mission is to “support community building and realize a world where people are closer to each other,” voice chat is a natural territory.

As a voice chat service, Twitter is also developing Space. Voice SNS and voice chat are likely to continue to grow in the future.
