The annual iPhone update is one of the biggest events in tech – it’s the phone many aspire to have, a trendsetter, and the phone everyone else is looking for the best.

While leaks and rumors are nothing new to the tech world, getting complete information on new Apple devices is pretty rare. They don’t tend to leak as completely as a Samsung or Google phone , but here we collect everything we hear about the 2022 iPhone models.

This is everything we’ve heard so far about the iPhone 14 models.

Apple iPhone 14 release date and price

  • Possibly September 13, 2022
  • Starting at $ 699?

Typically Apple holds its iPhone event around the second week of September and typically on Tuesdays. The iPhone 13 models were revealed on September 14, following this pattern.

If the pattern continues, the iPhone 14 models could be revealed on September 13, 2022. Of course, nothing is official so far, nor will it be for quite some time.

In terms of price, we would expect the iPhone 14 models to start at roughly the same ballpark as the iPhone 13 models. Rumors have claimed that the iPhone mini model could be scrapped in the future , which, if true, would increase the price. Starting price of iPhone 14 models compared to iPhone 13 models. However, hopefully there will be an iPhone 14 mini.

What will the iPhone 2022 be called?

  • iPhone 14 mini
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

The iPhone 11 , 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max were released in 2019, followed by the iPhone 12 mini , iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max in 2020, and the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 , iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13. Pro Max in 2021.

Therefore, the next iPhones are likely to be called the iPhone 14 mini, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, that’s not a guarantee, as Apple could go for the iPhone 13s, or it could go for something else entirely. However, we would put our money on the iPhone 14 for now.

Design

  • Completely new design
  • Perforated camera?
  • Rear flush

The Apple iPhone 13 models followed the same design as the iPhone 12 models, with flat edges and a design more in line with the iPhone 4 and 5 compared to the rounded edges that we had become used to from the iPhone 6 .

However, rumors suggest that the iPhone 14 models could turn things around again, and there is talk of a switch to a perforated front camera . Pro models are said to be able to see a pill-shaped cutout that would house the front camera and Face ID under the display. There are also claims that the protruding rear camera may end up flush with the back of the phone on the next iPhone.

We saw a reduced notch at the top of iPhone 13 models compared to previous Face ID phones , and a patent was previously filed for a notch-less phone, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see if this becomes a reality.

In terms of finishes, we would expect the Pro models to remain more premium than the standard models, and there have been rumors suggesting that they might adopt scratch-resistant titanium. There is also talk that the mini model will be dropped and a new standard Max model will be introduced in its place, but this is all just a rumor for now.

Shows

  • All OLED
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Different sizes

All 2022 iPhones will likely have an OLED display, as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models offer. The iPhone 14 Pro models will also likely have an adaptive refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz , like the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, although perhaps ProMotion technology will also leak into standard models.

In terms of screen sizes, the iPhone 13 mini has a 5.4-inch screen, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro have a 6.1-inch screen, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen. As mentioned, there has been some talk about ditching the iPhone mini and introducing a standard Max model.

If this happens, the iPhone 14 models could come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models, with a Pro and a standard model of each. However, we still expect the mini to continue in 2022, as we love that device so much.

Some speculation previously suggested that in-display fingerprint sensors could work alongside Face ID, which is a plausible suggestion.

Cameras

  • Dual camera on standard models
  • Triple camera on Pro models

Both the Apple iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a triple rear camera, consisting of a main wide-angle sensor, an ultra-wide sensor, and a telephoto sensor, while the iPhone 13 mini and standard iPhone 13 have the same main wide-angle and ultra-wide sensor. , but they lack the telephoto lens.

There has been a rumor that the iPhone 14 Pro models would feature a wide-angle camera with a 48MP 1 / 1.3-inch CMOS image sensor and would support 8K video recording, but it is still too early.

We expect that the iPhone 14 Pro models will continue to offer an additional lens and additional features, such as Macro and ProRES, over the standard iPhone 14 models. At the moment, it is not clear what could change for 2022, but improvements are likely to follow. compared to 2021 models.

Hardware and software

  • 5G
  • A16 chip
  • iOS 16

With Apple adopting 5G with all iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, it is virtually guaranteed that all iPhone 14 models will be 5G compatible .

The iPhone 14 models are also likely to be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, assuming Apple continues its naming patterns in terms of chipsets. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max had an additional core for their GPU, so this could be the case again for the iPhone 14 Pro models, helping to differentiate them from the standard models.

The next major software release will be iOS 16, which we expect to hear more about in June 2022, which is when Apple typically holds its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

In terms of storage, with the standard iPhone 13 models coming in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options and the iPhone 13 Pro models offering the same, as well as a 1TB option, we’d expect the same from the iPhone 14 models. .
