iOS devices have a very complete screenshot tool, allowing you to edit screenshots easily and quickly. Here are 9 very useful features.

iOS electronics have a screenshot tool with a number of cool features. From turning hand-drawn lines into straight segments to hiding sensitive information, iOS can do more than you might think. Here’s how to get the most out of the screenshot utility.

Convert hand drawn lines to geometric shapes

Once the screenshot is taken on your iPhone, you can use the pencil tool to annotate it. And if you’re using the pencil to draw a basic geometric shape, like a circle, triangle, pentagon, or whatever, you can hold the screen for a while and iPhone will convert your outline into the perfect shape.

A better way to conceal sensitive information

Next time you take a screenshot with sensitive information, like phone numbers, addresses, or even movie spoilers, you won’t have to scribble with the pencil, brush, or whatever. It is difficult to blur or erase properly with these methods, and it is even possible to play blurred content.

Instead, take the rectangle tool and draw an opaque shape over the information you want to hide. To do this, take your screenshot and tap the pencil icon (to the left of the trash can icon) at the top of the screen. Tap the + button in the lower right corner of the screen and select the square icon.

This will add a transparent rectangle to your screenshot. To make it opaque, tap on the square with a round icon in the panel at the bottom (the first icon from the left). This will open a small window with four options and you can select the first from the left, the opaque square icon.

Now you can move the shape around the screen and hide anything you want. The result is much neater and you will hide everything more effectively.

Match colors more easily

When you hide information on a screenshot with the opaque rectangle, you may want to use the same color as the background to completely hide all traces of the information in question.

To do this, you must use the color tool. After scribbling your screenshot or drawing a shape, tap the icon with a multicolored circle next to the + button in the bottom panel.

This will open the color palette. To match colors, tap the dropper icon in the top left, next to Colors. You will then see a magnifying glass on the screen, move it over the color to replicate and release when done.

The color will then be picked up and you can do what you want with it.

Save colors for quick access

When you use the dropper tool to achieve the perfect color, it is possible to save it. To do this, take a screenshot, tap on the pencil icon at the top and then on the icon with the multicolored circle next to the + button at the bottom to open the color palette.

Use the dropper tool to pick up the perfect color or choose from the palette. You can then tap on the + button to save it and you can easily reuse it in your other captures.

Use the ruler to draw precise lines and shapes

The ruler tool is perhaps the most underused. To draw geometric figures, but not only. You can also place it anywhere on the screenshot and fill with color, making it a very useful tool for colorization.

Add text or subtitle

The screenshot tool also lets you quickly add a caption or description, making it easier to find from the Photos app on the iPhone. Tap the pencil icon at the top then the + button in the bottom panel and select “Description” to add a description.

Similarly, if you select the Text tool just below Description, you can add text on the capture.

Add signature to screenshots

If you feel the need, you can sign each screenshot you take. Take a screenshot, tap the pencil icon and then the + button at the bottom. Select Signature from the list of tools, sign and you will see your signature on the screenshot.

Use the opacity tool to adjust the wallpaper

If you have drawn shapes on your screenshot and want to highlight them, use the opacity tool. Once again, pencil icon at the top of the screen, annotate the capture then tap on the + button at the bottom and select Opacity.

In the panel at the bottom, you can move the opacity slider to the right to make the background more opaque or to the left to make it more transparent.

Quickly select text in a screenshot

If you have an iOS 15 device, it is possible to quickly select all the text in the screenshot. Take your snip and make sure the pencil icon is not selected – drawing tools are not visible at the bottom of the screen -. Tap the scan icon at the bottom right of the screen and your iPhone will select all the text on the screenshot.
