The Taliban announced Tuesday that the war ended in Afghanistan and they decreed a blanket pardon, at their first press conference after taking control of Kabul.

“The war ended (the leader of the Taliban) forgave everyone”, declared the spokesman for the rebels, Zabihullah Mujahid. “We are committed to letting women work in accordance with the respect of the principles of Islam”he added.

Shortly before, the co-founder and number two Taliban, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar He returned to Afghanistan from Qatar, where he headed the movement’s political cabinet.

Mujahid assured that the Taliban will soon establish a government, but gave few details about its composition beyond that “it will connect with all parties.”

“All those on the opposite side are forgiven, from A to Z (…) We are not seeking revenge”, he assured.

Asked about the differences between the movement that was ousted from power 20 years ago and the current Taliban, the spokesperson said that “there is no difference” based on “ideology and beliefs.”

But “without a doubt there are many differences” based “on experience, maturity and knowledge,” he said.

“Today’s steps will be positively different from those of the past”, added.
