The association for the fight against homophobia in sport, “Rosso Diretto”, has announced that it is awaiting explanations from the Paris Saint-Germain player Idrissa Gana Gueye, whose gesture has caused much controversy in France. Last Saturday, on the occasion of the match against Montpellier , the Senegalese midfielder refused to wear the shirt with the rainbow patch, symbol of LGBT pride . “Homophobia is not an opinion but a crime. Lfp (football league) and PSG must ask Gana Gueye to explain themselves and very quickly. And punish him if necessary”, the tweet posted by ‘Rosso Diretto’.

Yesterday the broadcaster RMC stated that the Senegalese midfielder of PSG did not play Saturday against Montpellier because he did not have to wear the shirt with the symbol of LGBT pride, used by the 20 Ligue 1 teams for matches of the 37th matchday.

Gana Gueye was not absent for medical reasons “but for personal reasons”, explained the coach of the Parisians, Mauricio Pochettino , specifying that his player “was not injured”. And even last season, RMC recalled , the 32-year-old Senegalese had not played the match of the championship round in which all the Ligue 1 teams had used the jersey with the rainbow patch. For now, both the league and the PSG have not wanted to comment on the matter.
