SAO PAULO – Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pelé’, the best footballer in history for many, continues to recover after being operated on for a tumor in the colon and talks “actively”, reported this Friday the Sao Paulo hospital where he is admitted .

Pelé, 80, “is recovering satisfactorily, he is conscious, actively talking and maintains vital signs within normality,” explained the Albert Einstein hospital in a bulletin, where he remains admitted to the intensive care unit.

The former soccer player was hospitalized last week and on Saturday underwent surgery to remove a “suspicious” tumor in the colon.

The tumor was identified during routine examinations that, according to Pelé himself, were carried out this year after having been postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has kept him semi-confined in his house on the São Paulo coast.

This same week, from the hospital, Pelé sent a message of encouragement on his social networks to the Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos, who on Wednesday lost one of his children to cancer.

“I am recovering well, but today I want to send all my affection, love and prayers to my great friend Roberto Carlos. I want God to comfort his heart and be surrounded by love and light,” said the former footballer on his social networks.
