The Canadian Leylah Fernandez (N.18 in the WTA) and the Italian Martina Trevisan (N.59) became this Sunday the first tennis players to qualify for the Roland Garros quarterfinals.

Fernandez, finalist of the last US Open, defeated the American Amanda Anisimova (N.28), semifinalist in Paris in 2019, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3 in an intense match.

In the quarterfinals, the 19-year-old Canadian, who has reached this instance after achieving the impressive figure of 23 ‘breaks’ in her first four games, will face Trevisan, who defeated the Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (N.47) in two sets, by 7-6 (12/10) and 7-5.

It is the second time that the Italian has reached the quarterfinals in Paris after having done so in 2020, when she reached this previous round of the previous one.

After winning the Rabat tournament last week, Trevisan now has nine wins in a row.
