Twitter will implement a new type of verification check that is designed to distinguish particularly important accounts that users need to be certain that they are real.
This includes the Twitter accounts of governments, companies and public figures, which will now receive a gray official verification check.
“Many people have asked how you will be able to distinguish between Twitter Blue subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official, so we are introducing the ‘Official’ label to select accounts when we launch,” said Esther Crawford, director of Twitter product management.
Crawford detailed that only a small number of accounts will receive the new gray verification badge, as it will only be for government accounts, business partners, major media outlets and some public figures.
He clarified that being a member of Twitter Blue and paying the subscription to receive the blue verification check does not guarantee that an account will receive the gray check. He also specified that the gray check will not be for sale and can only be assigned by Twitter.
“Not all previously verified accounts will get the ‘Official’ tag and the tag is not available for purchase,” the social network executive said.
What is still not clear enough is whether there will be any mechanism for Twitter accounts to submit an application to receive this badge. special, as was the case in the past with the verification sign.
Even It is not known from when the new check will be available the truth is that at least in the case of Twitter Blue verification this is expected to happen this week. This membership will be priced at $7.99 dollars per month and will allow you to have advantages within the platform such as being able to publish longer videos and audios.
“The new Twitter Blue does not include identity verification: This is an optional paid subscription that offers a blue check mark and access to selected features. We will continue to experiment with ways to differentiate between account types,” added Crawford.
