The specialized finance site GoBankingRates took on the task of analyzing 11,000 cities located in the vicinity of lakes and made a list of the most affordable regions.

5. Cattle, Conn.

The median list price for a home in this area is $260,000. The Ganado area is located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, Winsted, and in the vicinity of Highland Lake, which itself has two public beaches and is a good place for fishing, water skiing, or swimming.

4. Cheboygan, Mich.
