Miami, Sep 13 – Urban music singer Nicky Jam will receive the Billboard Hall of Fame Award in recognition of a career spanning more than three decades in which he has built an “incredible influence as a global artist,” according to highlighted this Tuesday the organization of the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Considered one of the pioneers of reggaeton, the singer will receive the award in honor of “an impressive artistic career that goes beyond musical performance” at the next Billboard Awards gala, which will take place on September 29 at the Watsco Center from Miami, Florida (USA), reported the specialized magazine in a statement.
The note highlights that Nick Rivera Caminero, Nicky Jam’s birth name, is not only one of the current figures of urban music but also “has become one of the great promoters of the genre, today transformed into a phenomenon culture that has contributed to increasing the popularity of Latin music globally.
With 28 awards to his credit and more than a hundred nominations throughout his career, the interpreter of “Travesuras”, which in 2014 reached fourth position on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs list, accumulates a global of 14,500 million views on YouTube for all his songs and collaborations, as well as 1,100 million on Spotify.
A milestone in his career was the song “El Perdon”, from 2015, in which the Spaniard Enrique Iglesias collaborated and which rose to the top position on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs list, where it remained without descending for 30 weeks, the second single that has remained at the top of that table the longest.
Of Puerto Rican and Dominican origin, Nicky Jam has also made incursions into acting and joined the cast of the movie “Bad boys for life”, along with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, as well as being part of the autobiographical series “The Winner” for Telemundo and Netflix.
As explained by Billboard magazine, the Hall of Fame award is granted to “artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending borders of genres and languages.”
Previous recipients of this award have been Alejandro Fernández, Banda El Recodo, Carlos Vives, Daddy Yankee, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Franco de Vita, Joan Sebastian, José José, Marc Anthony, Marco Antonio Solís, Mongo Santamaria, Rocío Dúrcal , and Vicente Fernandez.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards will coincide with Billboard magazine’s Latin Music Week, which will also be held in Miami from September 26 to October 1.
The awards gala on September 29 will be broadcast simultaneously on the Universo cable channel, the Peacock streaming service, the Telemundo app and through Telemundo Internacional for Latin America and the Caribbean.
