Sara Tavares recorded music for the Portuguese version of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Sara Tavares died at the age of 45 from a brain tumor. The singer and songwriter originally from Portugal, but with Cape Verdean roots, became known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994.

The death of the singer was announced by the Portuguese minister, António Costa, who regretted the death of the pianist. The news was confirmed through the Instagram account of Sony Music Portugal.

Sara Tavares had been suffering from cancer

Sara Tavares had been suffering from cancer for several years. While the Eurovision Spain portal reported that the singer was admitted to the Hospital de la Luz in Lisbon, where she passed away.

Sara Taveres became known as a contestant on the show “Chuva de estrellas” (Star Shower) in 1993, for an imitation of Whitney Houston. She is also remembered for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, where she came eighth with the song “Chamar a música”.

In 1996 she recorded music for the Portuguese version of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In her musical career, the singer made her own space thanks to her unique voice. She managed to mix genres such as pop, urban music and African tradition, in albums such as “Tavares e Shout! ‘Mi ma Bô’, ‘Balancê’, ‘Xinti’ and ‘Fitxadu.

Sara Taveres was nominated for a Latin Grammy

In 2018, she was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of “Best Album of Music with Portuguese Language Roots”, thanks to her album “Fitxadu”.

Just last September 15 of this year Sara Tavares released new music. “KARTIDU” was the name of the single which is available on all platforms.

Eurovision Spain also added that, since her debut, the singer had performed in countries such as Japan, Canada, Germany or Poland.

In addition to being recognized as a symbol of the LGBTTIQ+ community by identifying as bisexual.
