Last march it was fifteen years since María de los Ángeles de las Heras Ortíz, artistically known as Rocío Dúrcal, died at her home in Torrelodones (Madrid) at the early age of 61 after not overcoming cancer.

Fifteen years of memories and a legacy that both her family and her inner circle can’t forgetFew child prodigies of the time managed to overcome fame and cross the line between childhood, adolescence and maturity as she did.».

This is how José Aguilar, writer and author of the first biography of «the queen of the trancheras», «Volver a Verte», tells it, who returns to the market to pay tribute to her former great friend with a book entitled “Acompáñame”, the album that led to success in 1966.

In these lines it is done an elegant and emotional review of the intense life of Rocío Dúrcal, in which well-known voices linked to the protagonist come together to publicly share their experiences and memories with the iconic artist, one of them is the one known to all José Luis Uribarri.

He was one of its great discoverers when “Marieta” was barely fifteen years old and then burst onto the small screen with “Canción de Juventud.” Then he was presenting a successful program called “Primer Aplauso” when he saw an innocent Rocío Dúrcal for the first time:

José Luis fell madly in love with Rocío, not only because of her voice, her sweetness and her beauty, but because he said she was unique. She fell in love completely and told me that she had also felt something for him, but it was a platonic love», slides the author to LA RAZÓN.

The age difference between the two and how frowned upon it was at that time, prevented both from beginning a romantic relationship and their love could never come to fruition. It was then that the name of Luis Sanz Fernando appeared on the scene.

The well-known producer, who died in 2012, was the representative of Shaila Dúrcal’s mother for more than ten years, and was in charge of «Separate» her from Uribarri to sign her first exclusive contract in the cinematographic world, one of the peak moments of her artistic career.

The appearance of Sanz was key in the professional development of the artist. “He took her career in a very personal way, he made her an idol. When Rocío married Junior in 1970, he had the idea that Sanz would produce films for both of them as protagonists, but Luis was very clear that his star was Rocío Dúrcal», dlides the author of the biography.

From that moment, the figure of Junior, the great love in the life of the singer, had a lot to do with Rocío’s decision to remove the representative from her side. After doing their last job together, «Marianella, Dúrcal dispensed with Sanz because her husband insisted that she did not need anyone to represent her because she already had assured success alone.

According to the author of “Acompáñame”, José Aguilar, that was a big mistake: “Although it is true that Rocío triumphed and things turned out well for her, the departure of Luis Sanz from his life was a big mistake. On a film level, she didn’t do much, and with what she did, she wasn’t satisfied.”

The writer highlights the discomfort of “the queen of the rancheras” after filming the movie “I feel strange”, a lesbian-themed film in which she starred with Bárbara Rey.

The issuance of the same supposed a great scandal at the end of the 70s, and it was not well received by many that «The bride of Spain», a child prodigy and adolescent like Rocío, was seen exposed in a film of these characteristics with full nudity and risque scenes included:

“The problem, beyond all this, was its terrible content and the lack of care and pampering that was had with the great Rocío Dúrcal, a Rocío Dúrcal in which thousands of Spanish women were reflected that they wanted to be like that girl with innate grace and enviable sweetness. That girl who had to grow up earlier than planned and that she gave up a free life to give herself completely to her passion.”

On that October 4, 1944, a star was born in Madrid whose light shines now and is reflected on the faces of his daughters, Carmen and Shaila, the singer was always very close to her daughters, especially to Shaila, who seems to have inherited her talent for music and has also managed to develop a successful career on stage.
