Rachel Sanchez Silva is turning 49 years old, an age that should be one of maturity and calm on the verge of half a century, but which in the case of the presenter comes at a difficult time.

Raquel has lived for years immersed in the media storm that continues to mean the death of her husband, Mario Biondo, died in May 2013.

His parents Pippo and Santina Biondo are still in the fight to find out the causes of their son’s death and to tie up the loose ends in an investigation that, to this day, follows two parallel tracks: that of the Palermo justice system and that closed by the Spanish judiciary.

While Raquel trying to keep a low profile focused on her two children and her husband and without wanting to make statements about it, Biondo’s parents have hired a Spanish detective agency that investigates possible leads in parallel with one purpose: reopen the case in Spain.

According to Pippo, it is not a chimera, “in Italy a case was recently opened after 25 years and another after 32 years. There is still evidence to be known, especially with new technologies.”

According to Mario’s father, the investigation is ongoing and is on the right track. Regarding the investigations presented by Emme Team, the technology company hired by the family to find clues based on the tracking of the Wi-Fi router in Raquel’s house and the telephone messaging on the night Mario died, Biondo assures that “in Italy the Ministry Public of Palermo has all the certifications of the Emme Team investigation. We present them on November 15th and we will soon present other very important ones. Now we are waiting for a hearing date before the Investigating Judge with our lawyers”.

The appointment is key, at stake is that the Italian justice extend the investigation for another 6 months, among other things to allow time for the Spanish detectives to present new evidence.

A case back and forth

This is a case with multiple twists. The last one, the decision taken by the Palermo Court of Appeals, on October 15, to close the case. A decision that was redirected by the Attorney General of the Republic, a month later ordering the reopening of the case, when it was known that the third autopsy carried out by the forensic Paolo Procaccianti, analyzed samples of biological remains that did not correspond to Mario’s body.

Despite the legal ups and downs, Pippo and his wife, Santina, are optimistic; “we are confident that we can reopen the case in Spain again. That is what the team of detectives hired in Spain is working for. Hopefully it can come true.”

Regarding the two identified suspects, who the family’s investigations placed as close to Raquel’s circle, Biondo prefers to be cautious. “Nothing is known yet, as far as we know there is no one who is being investigated. Still”.
