Pelé’s cancer has advanced by leaps and bounds in Brazil and he will spend Christmas in hospital. The three-time World Cup winner has spent the past three weeks at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo.

Pelé has had colon cancer since 2021 and had a tumor removed in September of that year and has been receiving regular treatment and a hospital report on Wednesday indicated that he needs additional care related to kidney and heart dysfunctions.

The 82-year-old man will be in the hospital for Christmas, his daughter Kely Nascimento revealed on social media. In an Instagram post, where she wrote: “Our Christmas at home has been put on hold.”

“We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better for us to stay here with all the care that this new family in Einstein gives us. His love for him, his stories and his prayers are a HUGE comfort because we know we are not alone,” she said.

The hospital report stated: “Edson Arantes do Nascimento [Pelé] presents progression of the oncological disease and requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions.”

Finally, it was indicated how the Brazilian star will be during these days in the hospital: “The patient remains hospitalized in a common room, under the necessary care of the medical team.”
