The Cuban Nueva Trova is in mourning. Its creator Pablo Milanés died at the age of 77 in Spain as a result of a long fight against cancer

The trova music singer born in Cuba, Pablo Milanés died at the age of 77 in Madrid, Spain after fighting for a long time against cancer and another series of derived diseases.

For years the Cuban singer-songwriter shone, delighting many with his compositions, which have been listened to for decades by trova lovers. Yolanda, Puerto Rico, Para Vivir and El Breve Espacio. Pablo Milanés, who for years was criticized for his sympathy with the government of Fidel Castro, said his last goodbye in the Iberian country.

His Instagram account pronounced his death with a heartfelt message: “With great pain and sadness, we regret to inform you that the teacher Pablo Milanés has passed away this morning of November 22 in Madrid. We deeply appreciate all the shows of affection and support, to all his family and friends, in these difficult times. May he rest in the love and peace that he has always transmitted. He will forever remain in our memory.”

On November 13, the musician was hospitalized in a clinic in Madrid, where he was complicating with several other conditions derived from cancer. This led him to cancel some concerts that he had scheduled in Mexico and Santo Domingo at the end of this month and the beginning of December.

Pablo Milanés was also recognized worldwide for being the founder of the Cuban Nueva Trova and admired by many who, like him, were influenced by this music. Recently his daughter Suylén Milanés also died earlier this year at the age of 50 in Cuba from a stroke. Due to his delicate state of health, Pablo Milanés was unable to travel to Cuba to say goodbye to his daughter.

Throughout his career, Pablo Milanés won the Latin Grammy for musical excellence and several awards in his country such as a National Music Award.
