New Jersey Governor Names Taylor Swift the Official State Sandwich
New Jersey’s governor declares the state’s official sandwich named after singer Taylor Swift in a nod to make the singer feel welcome.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy named the state’s official ham, egg and cheese sandwich after Taylor Swift.
Swift is touring the country on her sold-out “The Eras Tour”. The singer visits New Jersey and has three shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford over the weekend.
Prior to the concerts, Governor Murphy made the naming of the state sandwich in a “Swiftie” gesture to make the singer feel welcome. “We’ve been waiting for you and it would have been a cruel summer without you,” the governor said.
“Taylor Swift Ham, Egg, and Cheese,” is how the official state sandwich of New Jersey was declared.
“In New Jersey, we have a reputation for a great war between the Taylor ham and the pork roll,” the governor shared in a video via Twitter.
“Usually, we let you call it whatever you want, but since we have a superstar coming to town, we know full well we should commemorate the occasion,” Murphy added.
The governor shared the official decree, which, “Whereas, Taylor Swift is a superstar and will remain untouchable forever and ever as she creates meaningful lyrics and performs her unprecedented music live….”
The message on the naming of the state sandwich wished the weekend would bring the people of New Jersey and Taylor a night beyond their wildest dreams.
Swift’s ham, egg and cheese tribute joins other special recognitions offered by state officials. Last month, Tampa, Florida Mayor Jane Castor said the city would name the singer “honorary mayor” while she was in town.
