Dan Jewett, who is the partner of the world’s richest woman, has been a teacher for decades and recently taught chemistry at the private Lakeside School

MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist, author, and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, married a Seattle science professor , who expressed gratitude “for the exceptional privilege it will be to collaborate to give away assets with the potential to do a lot of good when They are sharing”.

Dan Jewett , who made the announcement in a letter to the website of the nonprofit The Giving Pledge on Saturday, said he never imagined he would be in a position to talk about giving away significant wealth during his lifetime to make a difference in life. other people’s lives.

Jewett has been a teacher for decades and recently taught chemistry at the private Lakeside School , where Scott’s sons and Jeff Bezos attended.

“And now, in a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know, and I have joined her in a commitment to pass on enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote.

American billionaire  MacKenzie Scott revealed Tuesday that she  has donated more than $ 4 billion to 384 charities in the past four months.

In an article published on the Medium platform  , Scott explained that he made this decision to  help the Americans most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Both the economic losses and the health impacts have been worse for women, people of color and people living in poverty,” she  noted. “At the same time, (the pandemic) has allowed billionaires to dramatically increase their fortunes,” he  said.

Jeff Bezos,  Scott’s ex-husband,  was the billionaire who saw his fortune grow the most during the pandemic , with  increases of up to 13,000 million in a single day,  reaching a  fortune of more than 200,000 million dollars.

Scott , who founded Amazon with her ex-husband,  also benefited from the staggering growth in the tech company’s shares  during the COVID-19 pandemic, making her  the richest woman on the planet with a total of $ 67.4 million in her personal fortune. .  Her estate has grown 81 percent since August 2019, shortly after she signed her divorce from Bezos.

After donating $ 1.68 billion to 116 nonprofits, universities, community development groups, and legal organizations last July,  Scott asked a team of advisors to help her “accelerate” her donations for 2020.  with immediate help to those who were financially affected by the pandemic.

He said the team used a data-driven approach , identifying organizations with strong leadership and results, specifically  in communities with high food insecurity, racial inequality and poverty rates, “and low access to philanthropic capital.”

Scott and his team started with 6,490 organizations, investigated 822,  and  put 438 “on hold for now,”  awaiting more details about their impact, management, and how they treat employees or community members.

In total,  384 organizations in 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, DC, will share USD 4,158,500,000 in donations , including food banks, emergency relief funds  “and support services for the most vulnerable.” Other organizations address “long-term systemic inequalities that have been exacerbated by the crisis,” such as debt relief, job training, credit and financial services for low-income communities, and education for historically marginalized and underserved people. The money will also support legal defense funds “that take on institutional discrimination.”
