The Israeli government has responded to Gigi Hadid, 28, a model of Palestinian origin, after she came out in defense of her home country in the conflict between the Israeli army and Hamas extremists. She made a post in which she mocked Israel’s ‘religious stance’ throughout its history with Palestine. “There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of the Palestinians. Condemning the Israeli government is not anti-Semitic and supporting the Palestinians is not supporting Hamas,” she said.

However, the model’s opinion was not well accepted by the country’s authorities. “Have you been sleeping for the last week? Or are you fine turning a blind eye to Jewish babies being slaughtered in their homes? Your silence has been very clear about whose side you’re on. We see you,” wrote Israel’s official Instagram account. Gigi and her sister Bella, also a model, are the daughters of Mohamed Hadid, who was among the 700,000 Palestinians expelled from their territory by Israel in 1948, but is now a powerful real estate entrepreneur.

This Wednesday’s VEJA Market video features the independent stock analyst. He assesses, among other things, that increased risk aversion can translate into capital flight to safer investments.
