The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, announced this Sunday that she is leaving Twitter for an “indefinite period”, although she was no longer active on the social network since last March 3, coinciding with her birthday, but she will continue to be active on Facebook. Instagram and Telegram.
In a message on Twitter, Colau lamented that this social network has been filled with false and anonymous profiles that intoxicate and incite hatred , “many of them even bought with money (bots) by the extreme right.”
Likewise, he has ensured that the network and the algorithm give him the “feeling that they distort reality : it overrepresents polemics and hate speech”, and has admitted that their use makes it easier to end up getting into discussions and fights with opponents politicians.
“For all this, I believe that Twitter today does not help me to make a good policy and I leave it. I will continue in other less polarized and less accelerated networks,” and added that his absence in the network has given him more confidence in humanity.
