President Joe Biden said Monday that he will visit Kentucky on Wednesday to examine the damage caused by the deadly tornadoes that devastated a wide swath of the state.

Biden spoke after receiving an update on the tornado relief effort from his top advisers. He said he would soon approve a request for emergency assistance from Illinois, Reuters reported .

The White House said Biden would travel to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, for a briefing on the storm, and Mayfield and Dawson Springs, Kentucky, to inspect damage from the storm.

Biden promised that the federal government would provide “whatever they need when they need it. ”

At least 64 people, including six children, lost their lives in Kentucky, with thousands of people without power and strangers welcoming the survivors who lost everything into their homes.
