DALLAS (AP) — Wu Yibing became the first Chinese player to win an ATP Tour title by coming from behind to beat American John Isner in three sets in the Dallas Open final.

Wu overcame Isner’s barrage of 44 aces – one shy of tying the singles record in three sets – and three match points to emerge victorious 6-7(4), 7-6(3) , 7-on Sunday. ). At the age of 23, Wu was the first Chinese to compete in an ATP Finals.

Wu also rallied after losing the opening set to defeat American tournament top seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. There was no pause in Wu’s win over Isner, the fifth seed to appear in his hometown tournament.

“It wasn’t just about winning the title. Personally, I wanted to write history and also for the country,” said Wu, who became the first Chinese to reach the third round of the US Open after qualifying last year.
