Bogotá, 12 Feb. The South American Sub’20 from Colombia that culminated this Sunday in Bogotá with Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay, which gave the title to Canarinha and in which Celeste, the coffee team, was qualified for the World Cup in Indonesia and Ecuador, promoted the career of several promises.
These are the five figures left by the tournament which culminated this Sunday:
1. ANDREY, A COMPLETE PLAYER
18 years. Recently signed by Chelsea and on loan at Vasco da Gama, the team he was trained with, Andrey arrived at the South American as one of the players to watch and he did not disappoint. He scored the title goal.
Despite being a midfielder, tasked with organizing the team and collecting balls, the youngster who has similar characteristics to Casemiro finished the tournament with six goals and will share the top scorer title with Vitor Castling.
He stood out precisely for being a danger in the air, another virtue that will make him one of the midfielders to watch in the Premier League for years to come.
2. LUCIANO RODRIGUEZ, THE BEST PUNCH OF THE TOURNAMENT
19 years old. Speed, dribbling and above all striking marked the tournament for Uruguayan striker Luciano Rodríguez, who scored five league goals.
Until last year, the striker played for Progreso in his country’s second tier and was signed this year by Liverpool in his country, where he surely won’t last long.
His punch gave him victories in the last minutes of the last French matches against Ecuador, with a long shot which became the best goal of the tournament, and against Paraguay, on a free kick which left the Albirroja in cold.
3. VITOR ROQUE, A GREAT SCORER
17 years. With six goals, Brazilian striker Vitor Roque finished as the tournament’s top scorer and showed his best qualities in front of goal.
During the games, the shooter didn’t appear much, but when he did and had the opportunity to shoot, he did and celebrated. A “killer” of yesteryear.
4. GUSTAVO PUERTA, THE HEART OF COLOMBIA
19 years old. During the South American Sub’20, the signing of the Colombian Gustavo Puerta to Bayer Leverkusen was closed, which gave him to Nuremberg of the 2 Bundesliga. He made this jump from Bogotá FC, of the second division of his country.
The Colombian captain knew how to take advantage of this South American to show his talent as a midfielder, since he organizes his team from behind and when he can, he advances a few meters to show his punch, which has allowed to score.
Colombia owes, in large part, its ranking to this midfielder who promises to shine.
5. JUSTIN CUERO AND THE VIRTUE OF APPEARING AT THE RIGHT TIME
18 years. He didn’t shine much but he appeared when needed, when Ecuador needed him. A promise from Independiente del Valle, the nine Justin Cuero, a heavy but dangerous striker, scored the two goals with which his team qualified on the last day of the hexagonal final against Paraguay.
His good position and lethality allowed him to excel in the endgame and appear when his team needed him most. EFE
