By regulation, playing time is divided into four periods (pieces) 15 minutes each, divided in half for each half. Clock time counts down; the longest break – when the half timeit occurs between the second and third quarters, where players are given 15 minutes to rest.

In American football, total playing time can last up to 3 hours due to the breaks that are made when a player with the ball leaves the field, there is an incomplete pass, a team requests a time-out (they have three in each half), when the offense changes, a team scores, referee calls for penalty, coach calls for play review (maybe twice per half).

Each team has four chances or stockings to try to move the ball into the end zone. To keep the ball you have to move forward at least 10 meters, because if you don’t you have to deliver it to the opposing team. Within the American, there are three ways to add to the board:

Landing: The ball must reach the end zone either in the hands of the player running towards the spot or because the ball is caught while inside the zone. This is worth 6 points and then you have the option of scoring an extra point by kicking the ball between the posts or two points with a conversion, which refers to a play.

field goal: Its value is 3 points and it is when the kicker puts the ball between the posts.

Security: It is worth 2 points and is when a defensive player is stopped in his own end zone.

Quarterback (QB): Passing the ball in team attack plays.

Runners: They receive the ball directly from the QB to make a play and add yards.

Receivers: The fastest and most agile of the team, they capture the passes that the QB throws to get a touchdown or advance yards.

defensive end: Located at the end, they try to hinder the passes of the rival QB.

Linebacker: Defensive line which measures with the rival offense to intercept, tackle or knock down the rival QB, they seek to cover the gaps through which the runners can pass.

Cornerback: The fastest players who take care of marking the receivers of long passes *Safety: The last men of the defense.
