The Miami Grand Prix will integrate, from 2022 and for ten years, the Formula 1 calendar, announced this Sunday the organizer of the competition, which will have two races in the United States from that moment, when joining Austin.

Controlled since 2017 by the American group Liberty Media, F1 had to make a stage in Miami since 2019, but the negotiations were more complicated than expected with the authorities of the city of Florida.

The Miami Grand Prix will take place at the Miami Gardens, about thirty kilometers north of the city.

The United States has hosted a Grand Prix in Austin, Texas since 2012 (on October 24 this year), but F1 seeks to establish more in the country of IndyCar and NASCAR.

The 5.41 km circuit is to be built around the Hard Rock Stadium, stronghold of the Miami Dolphins American Football team, whose president Tom Garfinkel is the local promoter of the Formula 1 grand prix.

“Formula 1 and the grand prix promoter will work closely with the local community to ensure reduced-price tickets for residents of Miami Gardens,” F1 said in a statement, when the project had hitherto clashed with opposition. of the neighbors.

“A program will be launched to support local businesses and the community to benefit from the benefits of the race,” adds F1.

In an interview in February, Ian Holmes, director of media rights for Formula 1, confided to AFP that the sport is experiencing an increase in popularity in the United States, especially thanks to the Netflix documentary series “Drive to survive.”
