Most Americans use egg and bacon as one of their main breakfast ingredients. But like all products in the country, inflation has caused their prices to be higher and higher.
The average price of a pound of bacon was $7.37 in August, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same month in 2021, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
However, the increase is most apparent from 2020 to 2021, when the average annual cost per pound of bacon rose from $5.58 to $6.64, an increase of 19%.
Meanwhile, the average price of a dozen eggs was $3.12 in August, an increase of almost 40% from August 2021. The average annual cost of eggs was $1.67 in 2021 and $1.51 in 2020, an increase of almost 11%.
To get a picture of how much their prices have risen over the last 20 years, the 24/7 Wall St. website adjusted the average price of a pound of sliced bacon and a dozen large Grade A eggs in US cities. for each year, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
