NEW YORK — A large wildfire broke out Friday afternoon in New York’s Rockland County, threatening homes and a nearby train line with burning trees. Emergency crews rush to evacuate affected buildings.
The black smoke was visible for miles. It is not known what caused the fire in Old Haverstraw road.
The Telemundo 47 helicopter flew over the scene and captured residents afflicted by the intense flames near their residences.
The blaze comes amid several days of blazes in the tri-state area due to unusually high temperatures for the season. Central Park and LaGuardia Airport set new daily heat records for the second day in a row, with the National Weather Service reporting temperatures of 89 and 88 degrees respectively at each location as of 1 p.m., enough to break their records established 82 years ago. in 1941.
Unusually high temperatures, relatively low humidity and windy conditions will keep the fire danger high through Friday (although the winds are hopefully lighter).
This is a developing story.
