When I started to seeVinland Saga“basically the idea was to ‘ostias vikings, good shots are coming‘… but how I was deceived. Yes, in the first season there was more than one rather bestial battle, and even in the second season There was a certain dose of action, but it goes way beyond just an action anime. In fact, it’s much more psychological than anything else, especially since the main subject of the second season revolves around Thorfinn facing the demons of his past (and some more incredible depictions we see).

Vinland Saga turned Thorfinn into a character similar to the top of a pine

How did Thorfinn go from a character that annoyed me to a character that fascinated me in just one season of “Vinland Saga”? Well, in the psychological complexity of the character, the truth is that everything is quite simple:

  • In the first season, Thorfinn seemed anything but a character I wanted to see:
    • As a child, he was a capricious person who did not listen to anything at all. what they told him, much less did he understand the reality of the world.
    • As a teenager, he was something completely obsessed with revenge that didn’t have much more understanding than his childish self.. It was just faster and louder, but it was as empty as it was years ago.
  • However, and when Thorfinn is curiously presented as someone “empty” having lost the receptacle of his hatred, that is to say Askeladd, it is then that he I think he’s one of the most complete characters I’ve seen in anime.
I will keep this Thorfinn
  • Because yes, as a young adult that he is now, he hardly ever tried to fight, it’s because really understands the value of a life and all the atrocities he committed as a warrior. It’s not for nothing that he wakes up every night screaming like a madman between traumatic nightmares.
  • And it’s now that he finally understands why his father was as he knew him although he was one of the most fearsome warriors the Vikings of his time saw in action. Behind every life taken, there was a story, a connection that was celebrated. Thorfinn eventually realizes something like this and begins a path that very few people even have available: that of redemption.

I understand that some may not like the direction that the story of “Vinland Saga” has taken, leaving out all the meaning of the battle. However, it freaks me out. At the end, If you want to see action, there are ALWAYS anime like “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “My Hero Academia” and other contemporaries, but take the trouble to show you the reality of the characters from a point of view not so epic but more “human”, there certainly isn’t..
