Three police officers were shot in a fierce manhunt that ended early Monday with one suspect killed and another in custody, Georgia state authorities said, USA.

A policeman from the State Patrol of Georgia registered a car going 179 km per hour on Interstate 20 at about 3:30 a.m. and initiated an intervention to make the vehicle stop, said the captain of the State Patrol of Georgia, Brandon Dawson.

The driver initially stopped and then escaped. The policeman hit the car to try to stop him, but the driver regained control, Dawson said.

The agent continued to chase the vehicle until a passenger used a rifle to shoot the patrol car, then hit him and put him out of service.

Following this, Carrollton police officers joined the police chase. The same passenger allegedly leaned out again and fired at police vehicles, wounding an officer, Carrollton Police Chief Joel Richards said.

The officer lost control of his vehicle and collided with a light pole. Other officers stopped to help him.

The suspects continued their journey to Villa Rica, where agents from this city joined the chase, said the city’s police chief, Michael Mansour.
