The United Airlines company has formalized an order that it described as “historic” for one hundred large-capacity aircraft, of the Boeing Dreamliner type, with the option to purchase another hundred more, with which it intends to “strengthen the company’s dominance in traffic globally in the years to come.

A company statement dated at its Chicago headquarters specifies that these high-capacity aircraft will be delivered between 2024 and 2032, and among them will be the 787-8, 9 and 10 models, thus guaranteeing flexibility to adapt each type of aircraft to certain range of routes.

United’s ambitious plans do not stop at large aircraft, as it has also placed another order for 56 Boeing 737 MAX -for delivery between 2027 and 2028-, with an option to purchase another 44 aircraft of the same type for delivery between 2024 and 2026. .

In total, United expects to receive 700 aircraft by 2032, with special intensity in 2023 -when it plans to receive two per week- and in 2024 -three per week-.

The airline winks at the new “green” sensibility by recalling that the 100 big Dreamliners are called to replace the old 767 and 777 within six years, which will represent 25% less “carbon” emissions per seat”.

“United rose from the pandemic as the world’s leading global airline and America’s flag carrier,” CEO Scott Kirby said triumphantly.

In the ranking of US airlines, American, United and Delta occupy the undisputed podium in all categories, and although American carries a greater number of passengers, United is very close in terms of the size of its fleet; Now, with the new plans, United will be able to become the company with the most planes.
