NEW YORK – An unidentified man was caught on surveillance video throwing a Molotov cocktail at the front door of a private home in Queens on Wednesday, two senior law enforcement officials told News 4 New York.

The Molotov cocktail exploded, according to the sources, in front of the residence located on 77th Street, which caused a small fire. However, no injuries were reported.

NYPD detectives Arson and Explosion Squad interviewed the owner of the home, a 48-year-old woman, who said she was not home when the incident occurred, but said that in August 2022, an unknown person also threw two Molotov cocktails at the scene, the sources said. At that time, according to police sources, one of the Molotov cocktails exploded, but he said he did not report this fact.

According to the sources, other residents of the residence said they did not see or hear anything.

New York City police officials along with FDNY firefighters conducted an immediate video investigation and reportedly recovered surveillance video.

The video shows an unknown person seen in the middle of the street throwing a flaming object in front of the building, which explodes, the sources said. Then the individual is supposed to escape. Additional video shows the same individual on a bicycle wearing dark clothing and a neon green backpack.

The investigation is ongoing.
