A woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a crash involving a possible underground race in Pomona, authorities said Thursday.

Pomona Police Department officers responded at 11:49 p.m. Wednesday in the Holt and Clark avenues area to a traffic accident and located two sedans that had been involved in the collision, the services police office said. Traffic.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived and assisted the driver and passenger who were riding in a Honda. The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but the woman died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the other sedan, a Dodge Charger, was not injured.

Witness statements at the scene indicated that the sedan driven by the injured man may have raced another vehicle west on Holt Avenue before the collision, but authorities have not confirmed this, police said.

“It was a Mustang, possibly black, driving the Honda, heading west on Holt (Avenue),” said Deandre Cooper, one of the witnesses to the crash. “The blue Charger was heading east on Holt in lane 1. The Honda lost control and collided with the Charger.”

The Ford Mustang apparently fled the scene before authorities arrived.

The accident closed Holt Avenue between Reservoir and Hershey streets for several hours.

The Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the collision.
