The new management of Twitter in the hands of Elon Musk has generated much controversy. Some of his decisions have been questioned not only by users of the social network, but also by his workers and other important public figures.

It seems that Twitter’s lawyers are expecting the worst, since an internal document reveals their concern about possible million-dollar fines, which would come after everything that is happening with the social network. A lawyer from the privacy team spoke out, stating that Musk is only interested in monetizing and that he will take whatever risks are necessary to meet his goals. So he fears for the future of Twitter and its community.

Lawyer believes that Twitter is at risk because of Elon Musk

The letter states that Elon Musk is not really interested in the issue of freedom of expression, since all he wants to do is monetize the social network to recover losses. The lawyer affirms that Musk decided to accept the agreement, but that in the end he has not been responsible for everything that touches him.

The consequences could be fines of billions of dollars for the company, as Musk appears to be willing to take risks and not respect some agreements made with the Federal Trade Commission.

“During the last 2 weeks. Elon has shown that he only cares about recovering the losses he incurs as a result of not fulfilling his obligation to buy Twitter (…) Elon has shown that his only priority with Twitter users is how to monetize them. I don’t think he cares about human rights activists, dissidents, our users in non-monetizable regions, and all the other users who have made Twitter the global public square that everyone has spent so much time building and that we all love.” lawyer, whose identity was kept secret.

It is argued that all this is “extremely dangerous” for Twitter and its users, since the fines of billions of dollars would compromise the future of the company and the social network.

“I heard Alex Spiro (current Head of Legal Affairs) say that Elon is willing to take a great deal of risk in relation to this company and its users, because ‘Elon puts rockets in space, he’s not afraid of the FTC.’ . All this is extremely dangerous for our users. Furthermore, since the FTC can (and will!) fine Twitter billions of dollars pursuant to the FTC Consent Order, it is extremely detrimental to the longevity of Twitter as a platform. Our users deserve much better than this,” the letter concludes.

The tycoon has not yet responded to these statements, nor is it clear whether his decisions will result in fines by the FTC. Many Twitter users do not rule it out, especially because of everything Musk has done in recent days.
