TikTok this is how automatic subtitles will work
In this way, the videos will be able to reach audiences with hearing disabilities.
TikTok is currently the social network with the highest penetration in the world. For this reason, the platform has made efforts to keep its community active.
With the aim of adding more people within the application, TikTok announced that it will enable the automatic subtitles function, to make the users’ videos more accessible.
“Automatic captions generate captions automatically, allowing viewers to read or listen to content. As creators make content, they can select automatic captions on the edit page after uploading or recording a video so that the text is automatically transcribed and displayed in their videos, ”TikTok said in an official statement.
How TikTok Captions Will Work
The user after recording their videos can select automatic subtitles on the edit page after uploading or recording a video so that the text is automatically transcribed and displayed in their videos.
However, despite its automation, content creators will also be able to edit the subtitle in the event of a transcription error.
Languages available
The Asian social network reported that this new feature is initially available only in American English and Japanese. “In the coming months” they hope that it will be available in many more languages of the world.
Accessibility tools
From Instagram, these types of functions have already been advanced with the possibility that the videos have subtitles automatically.
For its part, TikTok listed in its statement the efforts it has made to facilitate the accessibility that they have developed in the application.
Those jobs are:
- An animated thumbnail that replaces animated thumbnails with static images.
- A creator warning notifying creators when they produce videos with effects that could trigger photosensitive epilepsy.
- A photosensitivity feature allows users to bypass photosensitive content, which can be harmful to people with epilepsy.
- A text-to-speech feature that converts text to speech.
“By working with organizations like The Sordo Collective, our goal is to increase awareness of the range of diversity, talent and conversations that are taking place in deaf communities,” TikTok highlighted.
