The decision was unanimous. The Miami-Dade Board of Commissioners has approved legislation that brings relief to owners of The Hammocks Community Association.
Due to the alleged fraudulent activities of various members of this association in the past, many homeowners have faced increased rates, building code violations, and some have even lost their homes.
Several former officers of the Hammock Association have been arrested. They are accused of participating in a fraud, extortion and money laundering scheme involving a figure of almost two million dollars.
The new legislation comes as a lifeline for overwhelmed homeowners.
Regarding the new deadlines that the owners will have to catch up, it will depend “on the cases and it will depend on the offense, we will see when people need time”.
The Hammocks Community Association is Florida’s largest with over 18,000 properties.
