NEW YORK – New York City is distinguished by its history and its hundreds of events for all tastes.
One of the counties with a unique history in its neighborhoods is the Bronx, and now New Yorkers will be able to learn more through an exhibit of unique photographs that chronicle daily life in this part of the Big Apple.
It all starts with the Instagram account Bronx everyday which is part of the global initiative Daily projects which seeks to amplify local voices and advocate for a form of collective and grassroots storytelling. It was founded in 2014, and the page exclusively features photographs of its followers, over 43,000, and it rewrites the Bronx narrative, telling the complex stories of everyday life.
The exhibit was presented in collaboration with Rhynna M. Santos, a Puerto Rican-born documentary photographer living and working in the Bronx, who leads a team of five volunteer members who post images every day of the year on Bronx everyday.
The exhibit will feature more than 50 photos and videos, mostly taken with cellphones, from what has become an extensive online archive of county life. By encouraging supporters to photograph their neighborhoods, Bronx everyday encourages artistic expression by a variety of people, not just trained photographers, and creates a unique online archive of documentary images.
The exhibit’s opening night will feature music, breakdancing and graffiti, celebrating the Bronx’s history as the birthplace of hip-hop and its role as the epicenter of creative art, music and dance.

Who is this Rhynna M. Santos?
He is a Puerto Rican born documentary photographer and teaching artist who lives and works in the Bronx. Santos’ art captures the beautiful, painful, funny, and endlessly complex lives and perspectives of people of color in his community. She is the founder of Bronx Women’s Photo Collective and curator of the Everyday Bronx Instagram feed. His work has been published in The New York Times and presented at the Photoville and PhotoEspaña festivals, among others.
