The third season of The Mandalorian started in spectacular fashion, with several great action scenes and a very good character development. Leaving that aside, there’s one specific sequence that may have gone unnoticed by many, but it caught my eye. At a certain time Grogu and Din go to hyperspace to get to Navarro and on the way we see that little Yoda looks with interest at strange luminous figures. Next, I explain why this meeting is much more important than it seems:

What did Grogu see in hyperspace?

  • As they’re on their way to Navarro at the speed of light, Grogu observes strange creatures that seem to move in this dimension..
  • These animals are called purrgils and they are a species of space whales.
  • Yes, you read that right, according to the canon of star warsthe scientists who created hyperspace travel were inspired by it when building the ships.
  • They also served as a guide for the first settlers who entered deep space.

It’s the first time we saw the purrgils in star wars live-actionbut they had already appeared in the animated series star wars rebels. During the plot of rebels we see how Jedi Ezra Bridger manages to make a connection with the whales by means of the Strength and discovers that they are not hostile. This relationship could be very important for Ahsoka, the next series that will take place in the universe of the franchise.

Why are purrgils crucial to the future of Star Wars?

Ezra climbs on one of the purrgil.

At the conclusion of star wars rebels we saw how the cast coped with the Grand Admiral Thrawn. During the battle, Bridger used the force to summon the purrgils and take the enemy ship to an unexplored place in space known as Unknown regions. In the final scene we see that Ashoka and Sabine Wren vow to find Ezra and season 2 of The Mandalorian It seemed to indicate that the Jedi intended to keep his promise.

We will most likely see the continuation of this plot in the series of Ashoka. The only way to find Bridgeman would return to Harness the powers of the purrgils to take the Jedi to the edge of the galaxy. That way, it’s highly likely that we’ll see the special whales again very soon, now that they’ve already been introduced in live-action. The most certain thing is that the Ahsoka series arrives in the fall of this same 2023.
