black clover is undoubtedly one of the titles in the catalog of Weekly Shonen Jump House Shueisha most controversial in recent years, not so much for their own issues, but rather for the “ability” to divide the community into those who love it and those who hate it.
The adaptation animated by Studio Pierrot, broadcast from October 3, 2017 to March 30, 2021 has certainly contributed, through ups and downs, to spreading the notoriety of Black Clover but, at the same time, it has also multiplied its detractors.
On March 28, 2021, it was officially announcedafter a few weeks of leaks and indiscretions, la pellicola Black Clover: Sword of the Witch King in conjunction with the conclusion of the television adaptation.
On the other hand, the transposition of Yuuki Tabata’s work came dangerously close to the paper pendant and the big comeback of Bleach required an almost total focus on the latter by Studio Pierrot.
This first feature film based on the Black Clover franchise will most likely be an original anime project, that is to say not directly transposed from the manga, although there are no official confirmations yet. Tabata himself, however, handled both script and character design and oversaw the project as a whole; as a result, the film can be safely considered canon.
The Black Clover movie has been delayed
Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King should have been released on Netflix on March 31 to coincide with the arrival in Japanese theaters. According to what was announced by the film’s official website and by the streaming platform itself, however, the film was postponed to June 16 with Covid-19 as the main reason for the postponement.
Contrary to all the reports in recent weeks, however, the Black Clover movie is not a project owned by Aniplex or Kadokawa, so you can give Studio Pierrot and publisher Shochiku the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, Covid-19 has recently been abused as an excuse to mask inhumane schedules and barely standing productions.
In this case, it is plausible that the postponement is due to a real problem caused by the pandemic or by a marketing choice related to the continuous increase in cases of positivity in Japan, which risks reducing box office success.
