Clark County sponsored a study to examine the impact of mobile billboards on traffic on the Las Vegas Strip and presented the results at the March 7, 2023 meeting.

County officials explained the objectives of the study in the following statement: “To review Clark County’s current code, monitor compliance with the existing ordinance, and assist in recommending actions to improve safety and reduce the impact of billboards.” Las Vegas Blvd.

During the study, vehicles with billboards were observed driving 10 to 15 miles below the speed limit, breaking light level codes and creating significant gaps with vehicles traveling ahead.

Throughout the study, mobile advertising vehicles were observed during weekdays, holiday weekends, and non-holiday weekends.

By examining the impact of these vehicles on traffic flow, the county made recommendations to avoid the traffic created by advertising vehicles.

Recommendations included a 100 permit limit for vehicles traveling on Las Vegas Boulevard, restrictions on certain lanes and stricter enforcement of existing codes, among other proposals.

Clark County should sponsor another, more in-depth study of the effects of light emitted from mobile advertisements.

According to the results of the latest study, the light emitted from advertisements during viewing exceeded approved levels five times.
